MURRAY, RAYMOND W.

(1893-1973) Roman Catholic priest; L.L.B., Notre Dame, 1918; Ph.D., Catholic University, 1926; sociology faculty, University of Notre Dame, 1926-1968 (professor and founding department head, 1926-1953); awarded L.L.D. upon his retirement. Second President of the American Catholic Sociological Society, 1939.

Murray's interests were divided between anthropology, particularly prehistoric archeology, and social problems, particularly delinquency. He published introductory sociology texts in 1935 and 1950, in addition to Man's Unknown Ancestors (Bruce 1943).
