Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate The Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate is a research organization that conducts scientific studies for the Catholic Church. It is a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with Georgetown University.  For 36 years it has produced social science based research with a  goal "to deliver high-quality applied research or consulting services on Church issues."

Center for Religion, the Professions & the Public Founded in 2003 with a grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Center is affiliated with University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Journalism. Its mission is to improve religious literacy among professionals through teaching, resources and research.

Center for Religion and Civic Culture 
The Center for Religion and Civic Culture is a research center at the University of Southern California.  "Its research activities document the civic role of religion in Southern California, interpreting faith-based community development and organizing to scholars, religious institutions, funders, public officials, and the media. 

The Center for the Scientific Study of Religion (CSSR)
The Center for the Scientific Study of Religion at the University of Texas at Austin is a leading center for the sociology of religion, and particularly for the study of religious influences on human behavior and population outcomes. Research strengths of the faculty include the study of linkages between religion and: (a) emotional and physical health and well-being, and mortality risk; (b) family life, e.g., childrearing, marital quality, gender roles; (c) adolescent development and the life course; and (d) politics and civic engagement. Center faculty also examine racial and ethnic variations in religious life values within the US, and the impact of religious institutions and values within minority populations.

Center for Studies on New Religions
The Center for Studies on New Religions, is "an international network of associations of scholars working in the field of new religious movements.  CESNUR is independent from any religious group, Church, denomination or association." 

Center for Studies in Religion and Society
The Center for Studies in Religion and Society at the University of Victoria, Canada aims to "foster the scholarly study of religion in relation to the sciences, ethics, social and economic development, and other aspects of culture. 

The Center for the Study of Religion
The Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University is " a major academic initiative that aims to encourage scholarly research, teaching, and public discussion about religion through the diverse perspectives of the humanities and social sciences."

Center for the Study of Religion
The Center for the Study of Religion at the University of Notre Dame is dedicated to advancing social scientific understanding of religion in society through scholarly research, training, and publications. The Center brings a variety of faculty, students, and other researchers together into a community of scholars engaged in empirical investigations, intellectual interchange, and teaching crucial for advancing the sociological study of religion.

The Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture  The Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture, based at Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis, is "a research and public outreach institute devoted to the promotion of the understanding of the relation between religion and other features of American culture. 

Center for the Study of Religion and Society
The Center for the Study of Religion and Society at Creighton University, promotes scholarly activity and encourages the study of all religious groups and beliefs.  It is cross-disciplinary and includes research and writings by scholars from all academic disciplines

Center for the Study of Religion
This center at University of California at Los Angeles is the public face of UCLA's religion program. It is an informally organized group of faculty and students interested in religion and sponsors a weekly colloquium, annual conferences and evening lecture series.

The Center for the Study of Theological Education   The Center for the Study of Theological Education is a research center at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City.  The Center conducts research on all aspects of theological education in North America including studies of students, faculty and administration, and focused studies on the financing of seminary education and the public image of seminaries.

Center for the Study of Latino Religion
Founded at the University of Notre Dame, "its mission is to serve as a national center and clearinghouse for ecumenically focused social-scientific study of the US Latino church, its leadership, and the interaction between religion and community."

The Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life
The Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life was established at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut "to advance knowledge and understanding of the varied roles that religious movements, institutions, and ideas play in the contemporary world; to explore challenges posed by religious pluralism and tensions between religious and secular values; and to examine the influence of religion on politics, civic culture, family life, gender roles, and other issues in the United States and elsewhere in the world." 

Centre for Ministry Studies
Located at the University of Wales, Bangor, this site displays a collaborative effort of the University of Wales, Bangor and St. Michael's Theological College, Llandaff.

Council of Societies for the Study of Religion
The Council of Societies for the Study of Religion is a federation of learned societies in the field of religious studies.

Canadian Society for the Study of Religion
"CSSR/SCÉR provides a forum for all who are involved in the academic study of religion" and "fosters an interdisciplinary discourse in order to arrive at a better, integrated understanding of religious phenomena."

Glenmary Research Institute
Glenmary provides support and assistance to Glenmary Home Missioners by providing applied research to Glenmary leadership, individual missioners, Church leaders and the wider society. 

Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research
The Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research at Saint John's University "seeks to discern the meaning of Christian identity and unity in a religiously and culturally diverse nation and world, and to communicate that meaning for the mission of the church and the renewal of human community. The Institute is committed to research, study, prayer, reflection, and dialogue, in a place shaped by the Benedictine tradition of worship and work."

International Sociological Association Research Committee on Sociology of Religion (RC22)
The RC22 attempts to establish opportunities to engage in activities of the International Sociological Association by establishing contacts with sociologists throughout the world, encouraging the exchange and dissemination of  significant research, and by promoting scientific activities and meetings relevant to the field of sociology of religion. 

The Odum Institute for Research in Social Science
The Institute for Research in Social Science offers "diverse services to support the research and training of social science faculty and graduate students." It has a very large archive of computer-readable social science data much of which is accessible from the web. 

Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals
The Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals at Wheaton college in Wheaton, IL was "established to encourage and support research on evangelical Christianity in the United States and Canada.  The Institute seeks to help evangelicals develop a mature understanding of their own heritage and to inform others about evangelicals' historical significance and contemporary role."

Louisville Institute
The Louisville Institute is a Lilly Endowment program for the study of American religion based at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.  Its' mission is "to enrich the religious life of American Christians and to encourage the revitalization of the institutions, by bringing together those who lead religious institutions with those who study them, so that the work of each might stimulate and inform the other.  We see to enhance understanding of American religion and to encourage the vitality of American religious institutions through a program of conferences and grant making, with particular attention to the situation of Protestantism, Catholicism, the historic African-American churches, and the Hispanic religious experience.

 

Resourcing American Christianity  This web site is a joint effort of Union Seminary and the Lilly Endowment to distribute research findings from diverse Lilly-funded projects.  

Material History of American Religion Project
The Material History of American Religion Project based at Vanderbilt University "studies the history of American religion in all its complexity by focusing on material objects and economic themes."  The project maintains an electronic journal and interesting online collection of religious material objects.  

Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture
Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan specialized in research of Asian religions.  A few of its publications are available online.

The Association for Jewish Studies
The Association for Jewish Studies is dedicated to promoting and providing research, information, and professional development in the area of Jewish studies as offered in higher education institutions.  

The Polis Center
The Polis Center gathers and interprets data about the role of religion in Indianapolis and, by implication, in other mid-sized American cities.

The Pluralism Project, Harvard University
The Pluralism Project "was developed by Diana L. Eck at Harvard University to study and document the growing religious diversity of the United States, with a special view to its new immigrant religious communities." 

The Program for Religion and Social Policy Research
Located at the University of Pennsylvania, this program "is a research, education, and policy program dedicated to understanding the nexus between organized religion and the provision of social services."

Religion Culture and Family Project
The Religion, Culture, and Family Project at The Divinity School of The University of Chicago "seeks to address the broad contemporary crisis in American family culture from a range of theological, historical, legal, biblical, and cultural perspectives." 

Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion
The Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion at Wabash College "seeks to strengthen and enhance education in North American theological schools, colleges and universities."

Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion 
The Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion in Waco, Texas "exists to initiate, support, and conduct research on religion, involving scholars and projects spanning the intellectual spectrum:  history, psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, political science, epidemiology, theology, and religious studies."  

J.M. Ormond Center Pastoral Leadership Project
The J.M. Ormond Center at Duke University Divinity School, is engaged in a four-year project focused on studying and strengthening pastoral leadership. Although the site does not contain many resources at present, over the next few years it will offer excellent research findings and insights into religious leadership.

Research Section of the Aston Community Involvement Unit, London, England
This site "undertakes community research, evaluation and information gathering for faith communities and voluntary sector groups in Newham, East London and beyond."

PARAL - Program for the Analysis of Religion Among Latinos
This group is "a network of scholars committed to a comparative study of religion among the people of Latin American heritage living in the United States."
